Components

Finding WWII components was a challenge but with the help of many WWII enthusiasts, almost all the parts were donated. This included valves. valve holder connectors etc. listed below.

Valves (Tubes)

The 20 6C8Gs were the most difficult to locate. These are double triodes with a top cap connection. Most of the double triodes used at this time were 6SN7 or similar. These had no top cap and were rated with a heater current of 0.6 Amps. The 6C8G had the advantage of only needing 0.3 Amps and were chosen as noted in the full report

Knobs

One item we did have major problems with were the round knobs. These need to be as close as original to those fitted particularly as they are visible. All we had to go on was one of the original types but in off white. It was, therefore, necessary to use this as a pattern and mould many new black ones. We found a firm who advised us and supplied the necessary mounding compounds.

Transformers and chokes were specially made by a very helpful firm who had roots back in the 1940s and fully understood what was needed.

Not as the original

Parts that are not authentic are resistors and capacitors. These parts that were available in the mid-1940s were unreliable or out of specification. Condensers, as the capacitors were named in those days, deteriorated and would fail. Resistors did not stay within speciation and would change their values outside the stated tolerance which were quite large to start with. Modern versions are far more reliable and stable and quite cheap to purchase.
